Native Texan John Maskey paints what he knows and loves best – the colorful history, romance and flavor of Texas, Mexico and the Southwest. His bold use of light and color weaves a vibrant tapestry of the life and culture of the region.

Maskey received his first training at the Hunter School of Art where he studied for three years under distinguished San Antonio artist and teacher Warren Hunter. He subsequently studied with many nationally prominent artists including Millard Sheets, John Pike, Robert E. Wood, Zoltan Szabo, Charles Reid and Edgar Whitney.

“The unique character of the land and people of the Southwest is rooted in powerful traditions. The blending of cultures, rugged landscape and classically simple architecture are timeless. I hope to capture some of this feeling in my paintings.”

Maskey’s work has been the subject of feature articles in Southwest Art, Art Voices, American Artist, and other publications. His work is exhibited in numerous juried and invitational shows.
