John Barger

John Barger blends a style of impressionism and naturalism to create landscapes that bring out the majesty of his subjects. John’s paintings invite the viewer to experience the play between color and light as he captures an exquisite moment in time. Influenced by such artists as the French impressionist Monet, American master George Innes and Texas artist Protifino Salinas, Barger’s evolution as an artist has brought him to preeminence among contemporary Texas landscape artists. Viewing one of his paintings is a calming experience which magically transports you to distant hills and valleys.

A.C. Cook, noted historian of early Texas art and owner of “The Hock Shop Collection” says of John Barger, “I have known John for many years, I consider him to be without doubt, the finest contemporary Texas landscape artist”. Mr. Cook goes on to say, “John compares favorably to the great masters from the 1920’s and 1930’s which was a golden era in Texas art”.

Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on June 16, 1953, John grew up in Galveston, Texas. His love of nature and art manifested itself early in his childhood and has become his life’s work. Barger received his art degree from the University of Texas; he has traveled and studied extensively in Mexico and Europe. His paintings can be found in numerous corporate collections, prestigious private collections as well as fine art galleries.
