Anthony A. Gonzalez, a native of San
Antonio, Texas has been painting professionally since 1982. He
currently lives north of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country.
His paintings explore the various subtleties of the feminine.
Through the inspired use of form and color, he hopes to convey a
level of feeling or emotional experience that will connect with
the viewer. Much of his work centers on the subtle complexities
of a heart felt experience and the reflective attributes of the
feminine. The paintings are meant to bring the viewer to an
experience that are moments suspended in time. These eternal
moments touch on the endless expressions of the feminine.
Gonzalez says, "It is the endless creative possibilities of the
feminine that inspires me to paint. My art is romantic
representational realism with the figure as the main subject.
The figure gives me a strong personal presence that retains
visual reality while interpreting a meaning beneath the surface
of the actual form. I prefer the painterly quality of oil paint
on a good grade of linen canvas to best enhance the visible
brush strokes that are necessary to the expression of my style.
I draw and paint from life often to continually perfect my
skills."
Anthony takes every opportunity to
expand and develop his skills and personal style. He continues
to pursue these goals through the mediums of oil, watercolor and
charcoal for his drawings. Much of his technique is self-taught.
Gonzalez attended The Art Institute in Texas, Academia Atrium in
Madrid, Spain, and has taken numerous workshops with nationally
known artists. Gonzalez was commissioned to paint portraits of
San Antonio mayors, Howard Peak and Nelson Wolff. He is featured
in the Best of Portrait Paintings, published by North
Light Books. Furthermore, he has been honored with numerous
awards and has shown his work nationally and internationally.
His works are in collections in the United States, England,
Germany, Mexico and Spain.
Anthony also shares his knowledge and
skill with other aspiring artists and students by conducting
demonstrations in oil, drawing and watercolor. He also puts his
energy into conducting workshops regionally, as well as
internationally in Spain and Italy.
